  1. Microbiology does not describe the functions you propose to describe.

  2. perhaps outline the basic function of the respiratory system to the whole body, then perhaps discuss the anatomy of the lungs and how the blood flows through them, and how the capillaries surround the alveoli. maybe talk about how the all the structures are suited to their function. the prperties of the blood, and how it is specialized to carry oxygen.

  3. i'll tell you what i know :

about the lungs: each lung has 600 million alveoli

and talk about what happens in them :

the alveoli is surrounded by a great number of capillaires sanguins and there's an air exchange.

first, the alveoli has a certain amount of H20 which helps make the oxygen soluble and facilates it's penetration in the blood in the capillaires sanguins and transported to the cells for cellular respiration ( inspiration)

the air exchange: the oxygen penetrates in the blood and co2 is diffused in the alveoli to be thrown outside the body (expiration)

about the blood: the blood group gene is in the chromosome number 9

and the synthesis of hemoglobin gene is in the chromosome number 11

if there's a mutation in the gene of the synthesis of the hemoglobin, that will cause l'anemie falciforme which is a change in the globules rouges form which make them incapable to transpot oxygen properly which cause a great anemie and then the death.

you can also talk about how the hemogobin is formed inside the cells ( transcription, translation....)

you can say that the red globules live for 4 months ( 120 days) and reformed by the bones moelle

the number of red globules is between 4 and 5 millions/mm^3
