  1. Typical gram-positive bacteria are those staphylococci that produce boils.

    Typical gram-negative bacteria are the bacilli that cause whooping cough.

    Typical gram-variable bacteria (sometimes retain the blue colour, sometimes do not) are the bacilli that cause tuberculosis.
