Question:

Microgynon 30. Advice on moods and whether it is normal to bleed after stopping?

I recently started taking the pill Microgynon 30. I started on the first day of my period and only took it for about a week. My moods were incredibly bad; paranoia, frustration, anger.

I couldn't handle this depressive state so I stopped taking it on Saturday. I began to bleed lightly yesterday and today I'm bleeding quite heavily. Is this normal? Also will my moods subside? Has anyone any advice after taking Microgyn 30?

Many thanks in advance :)

  1. I started taking Microgynon to postpone a period which is due to fall on my wedding day in a few months. I too started on the first day of my period, and have been on for three weeks. I haven't stopped bleeding yet. This worries and irritates me extremely.

I had dreadful mood problems for the first fortnight, which are not as bad now, and an unholy craving for sugar which is almost forcing me to eat like a thing possessed. As we speak, I am also having cramps. I have never experienced either of the last two problems before.

I have read a lot of user opinions of this pill, and not many of them are good, but those that are say that you need to ride out the horrors of the first month, which even fans admit is unpleasant. Those who stop taking Microgynon usually say that their mood problems etc. subside almost immediately, but others say that they have been screwed up permanently by this drug. (I think you'll be fine as you haven't been taking it for long). Frankly, I'm not sure that persevering is worth it, when there are so many other alternatives. The problem is finding one that suits you.

I hope you feel better soon :(

PS I think the heavy withdrawal bleeding you are having is a good sign- your body is trying to take back the wheel after chemical hijacking. I would be annoyed but not worried (as long as you don't pass out from anaemia). The hormones in Microgynon make the lining of the uterus thicker, as I understand it, so now there's more to slough off.
