Question:

Micronor mini-pill while breastfeeding?

I had my 6 week check up yesterday. Since I am still breastfeeding my doctor gave me a prescription for micronor minipill, while they check to see if I can get mirena. Anyways, if you're breastfeeding and taking the mini-pill will it make you start your period?

Also, if you've taken micronor, what was your experience with it? did you like it? What about mirena?

I'm not too happy about going on birth control again, I don't like how it messes with your body. But since I don't want to get pregnant, I need to. I just want to find the one that will do the best for me. Thanks

  1. After giving birth my hormones were all over the place and I started having periods every two weeks.  I started taking Micronor because of breast feeding like yourself, and now my periods have disappeared completely.

I get an achy tummy sometimes but that's all.  Once I'm done with breast feeding I'm going back on Microgynon as I'm not too happy about the Mini pill but don't want to risk pregnancy and husband complains about condoms.

  2. I started taking Micronor when my baby was 2 and a half months old. I am also breastfeeding. I have yet to have a period since I gave birth. I also am really forgetful and forgot to refill my prescription, so after the first pack I have been taking nothing. It's been 4 months now, and no period (not pregnant either! I've checked! :-)

I've read that a lot of women have very irregular periods while taking Micronor.

  3. You can use Mirena, but you should take at least on month of mini-pills first before you do.  A very small amount of women will have supply issues from progesterone-only methods and it is easier to stop the pill than take out an IUD.

I'm debating going back on hormonal birth control because I don't want to get pregnant.  But for now I am sticking with other methods.

  4. I am on the minipill and have been since my son was 6 weeks old.  he's now just over 4 months old.  I think it's fine...no side effects for me.  I have no desire for s*x and it is still quite painful, but I think that's a side effect of breastfeeding (dryness etc.).  I have only had spotting once and that was because I was about 4 hours late taking the pill.  You have to take it at the same time everyday or else I guess you spot.  But I have not had a true period.

  5. I took micronor for 2 months after I had my son who was 6 months yesterday.  I quit taking it because I didn't like the weight repositioning I had.  It seems that all the weight I lost after birth was found and decided to go straight back to my tummy (making me feel that I look pregnant again..which i'm not).  I had have had one "real" period (3 days after I started taking it) and since then I have spotted for an hour every 6 weeks (that part I like!!)  I think I am going to be getting it refilled this weekend since my son has decided to wean himself and refuses to nurse.

    Good luck.  Hope I helped.
