  1. If you do a direct comparison - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?... - you'll see that they're both about the same.  Either one is ok for school work.  Install Open Office on either one (it's free) and you're set for school.  Neither one is really good for gaming, and Ive been getting more and more disenchanted with HP over the years.  (I replace my notebooks every 3 years at the outside - the last ones were Gateways, and I haven't been disappointed.)

  2. windows Home Vista Premium 64-bit would run faster. Since your not into graphic intensive games etc, then you would be better off with the 32-bit version of Vista.

If it is the same price, naturally go for the 64 bit. I don't think you would notice much of a difference.

  3. Best OS ive ever used , alot safer then xp by far. compatiblity wont be an issue in time but other than that this os beats out xp id say. ive used both xp and vista for about equal amounts of time and id prefer vista for sure. id buy this again definately.

  4. Eighth one down... save your self money. You don't need the other for what you want.

  5. if you are just using this computer for normal computing (papers, web browsing, email, music, mild gaming) you should just get the 32 bit vista home premium. I was a computer major and I still didn't even need use anything in the 64 bit.

  6. Like all the computer tech's out there that have been say Vista is good listen to them! I'm just entering the computer field and i have 2 computers 1 have XP Pro and the other Vista. Truth be told i like Vista more then XP! At first i was against it but I was oh well i will have to deal with this in my field so i kept it on my one computer It does take a little getting use to it! But i find its more use friendly! Easy to find what you are looking for. For the gammers out there its a nice OS for gaming! Like they said make sure you have 2 gig's of ram! I'll be trying it on a P4 3.0GHz HT 2 gig ram system soon (later on i'll put in a dual core CPU)

  7. Go for the 9th one for $599, you get a smaller hard drive, but almost $300 cheaper, for everyday use, its more than enough for your needs, the money you saved could go towards a newer model in 2-3 yrs time.

If you need more storage, an external 500GB drive can be around $100 should you need one but 160GB is a lot as it is.

One point you need to know is, HP laptop ships with Vista Premium cant be downgrade to XP, so if you dont like Vista (which many dont) you will have no roll out plan.
