Question:

Microsoft Word Printed Margins Problem?

I'm trying to print a document on letter size paper...the document is set at that page type and the printer is set at that page type...

The margins are top and left 4 cm...right and bottom 2.5 cm...and the text is double spaced...

So, everything is set correctly on the software, yet when i print, the margin measure is never correct...it's always 3 cm...even if i change the bottom margin to 2, it's always at 3cm when you print...

anyone know what gives?

Desperate.

  1. Often when the top margin does not work, the problem is not with the page setup, but with the printer.  Different models of printer feed the paper through them differently.  So while Word may be printer 4 cm down from the top of the page, the printer is pulling the paper through later then Word expects it, so it ends up printer later (higher) then Word expects.

You may have to play around, and increase the top margin (try 5 cm) to get it to actually print at 4cm.  Lower the bottom margin will not make any difference at the top.  Each printer is a little different, so you often have to play around a little to find the right setting for your printer.

(I had one printer that pulled the paper early, so you had to leave NO margin at the top to have it print 3/4 inches from the top of the paper.  If you wanted the top margin smaller, you had to set a negative margin.)
