Microsoft Xbox 720 confirmed for 2013? New boss at the helm?
Signs in the industry seem to indicate that the Xbox 720 is set for a 2013 release window, while Microsoft have replaced the head of design
Starting things off with the change in top management responsible for the development and design of the Xbox 720 as a number of sources seem to indicate a change at the very top. Don Coyner, who has been the man behind the Xbox brand for over 10 years seems
to have been told that his services are no longer needed.
Coyner, is the one responsible for making the current console, the Xbox 360, what it is today yet it seems that for the next generation of Microsoft branded gaming consoles, the company want to bring in new ideas and a sense of freshness to ensure they stay
ahead of the competition and carve out a niche of their own.
If the reports are to be believed then it seems that Microsoft are looking for someone who can bring a higher level of interactivity as Emma Williams, the person behind the redesign of the Xbox 360 Dashboard has been promoted for her efforts.
It really does speak volumes of what everyone can expect from the Xbox 720 as the console seems to be looking to break the conventional norms that video game consoles have made their own in the industry over the past few years.
Another interesting fact that comes to mind is how the Xbox 720 will be releasing, if the reports are true that is, before the 10 year plan for the Xbox 320 has been completed. Microsoft confirmed earlier that they had planned on supporting the 360 for a
decade.
However, Sony tend to do the same thing, which is release their next generation of consoles within the ten year period while continuing to support the previous generations until their ten years are up.
Chris Lewis, the head of the European division of Xbox was quoted in August saying, “We think we’re a little over halfway with the life cycle of the console, but that’s not to say there won’t be an overlap. I’m not going to announce specifically or talk
about timing. But you could imagine there could be overlap, it depends. We’re not being specific about the next generation at this stage.”
There has been plenty of speculation surrounding the official announcements of both Microsoft and Sony’s next generation gaming consoles, especially how Nintendo have already made the Wii U public and seem to have a head start.
At this point in time all one can do is speculate, yet if the reports are true then one can expect a very different Xbox experience with the next generation of Microsoft’s little beauties.
