Microsoft covers up ‘New Xbox’ Leak – Video Games Update
Microsoft has covered up yesterday’s information leak regarding the upcoming next generation Xbox by Brian Hall, the General Manager of the Windows Live team, by saying that it was just a misunderstanding.
In a podcast interview with the Verge, Brian Hall accidentally mentioned the ‘New Xbox’ along with the upcoming Microsoft products this fall. That got the entire internet buzzing with rumours and speculations about the upcoming machine.
Microsoft has clarified today that it was just a misunderstanding and currently the company has no plans for a new Xbox and is fully focused on the Xbox 360.
“When Brian mentioned a ‘new wave of products,’ he was referring to the full lineup of products coming later this year from Microsoft, including Windows 8, Office, Windows Phone and of course our fall Xbox update which will bring a host of new consumer experiences
like Xbox Music, Videos, Games on Windows 8 and Xbox SmartGlass,” stated the press release by Microsoft regarding the comments by Hall.
It is however no secret that the next Xbox is in fact in development as earlier this year, documents related to the next Xbox, codenamed project Durango, were leaked to the internet which proved that Microsoft is indeed working on the console.
The documents suggest that the next generation Microsoft console will feature 4 to 6GB of ram and a quad core processor. It has also been reported that the upcoming console will have Kinect 2.0 already built into the system which will improve the device’s
performance and hopefully get rid of the input lag that plagues the current Kinect.
Microsoft has admitted to IGN that the leaked documents are in fact legit but they do not represent the final specification of the upcoming console.
Currently there has been no information about the graphical processing unit (GPU) of the upcoming console but a recent job listing on 343 industry’s (343i) website for a graphics designer for the next generation Halo experience suggests that the GPU will
be DirectX 11 compatible.
It seems that Microsoft is not yet ready to enter the next generation, despite complaints by numerous developers who believe that it’s high time that more powerful consoles hit the market. Analysts believe that Microsoft is likely to announce the upcoming
console by the end of 2013 and will bring the console to the market in 2014.
