A recent job advertisement has Microsoft looking for an executive producer for a ‘AAAA’ game. The reason this is news is because the gaming industry has only hone as far as AAA.
Just like in Hollywood there are B-movies and big budget films, the gaming world has AAA titles and then the usual run of the mill gaming experiences that lack the blockbuster make up. That is not saying that only triple-A titles are successful as every
so often a game bucks the trend and becomes a huge success.
Microsoft however, is looking to buck a trend of their own and are currently hiring for a role of executive producer. The candidate selected will be in-charge of delivering a ‘AAAA’ game, which would make it the first of its kind in history.
The job advertisement read, “Microsoft Studios (Xbox) is looking for a dynamic and seasoned executive producer to lead and develop a world-class team who will own the creation and delivery of a AAAA experience that delivers on first party goals and, more
importantly, creates a fun gaming experience for our audience.”
The first question that pops into one’s head is whether or not there is a rather embarrassing typo that makes the project sound extra ‘Amazing’ or ‘Awesome’. However, with the next generation of consoles confirmed to be in development the extra A could be
industry changing.
To be very frank, the extra A has come under question as gamers have already begun coming up with their usually brilliants puns while at the same time speculation as to whether or not the extra A is a typo or not.
A majority seem to agree that it is a typo and personally the safe bet would be to agree with them on this occasion.
One will have to wait and see how Microsoft respond to the japes and jokes, if they do respond at all, and one can never know, maybe the studio has something special lined up for E3 this year. Though, once again, judging by the job advert, there may still
be quite some time before anyone sees anything AAAA in the gaming world.
