The Platform developer has denied any and all reports that linked them with a reveal of their next-gen console at E3. However, some gamers remain unconvinced.
The speculation surrounding the next generation consoles of both Microsoft and Sony has grown over the past few months, especially after Nintendo showed off the Wii U at E3 last year.
Speculators, analysts and gamers alike have shared their views and provided evidence as to why we would see the Xbox 720 and the PlayStation 4 at this year’s E3.
Yet, if the speculation was a fire then Microsoft’s recent statement denying any reveal would be a bucket of water, or, to put it in simpler words, ‘No Xbox 720 at E3, so relax!’.
The news broke via e-mail as David Dennis, the Head of Corporate PR at Microsoft, informed a number of outlets that there would be no reveal at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo.
He wrote, “While we appreciate all the interest in our long-range plans for the future, we can confirm that there will be no talk of new Xbox hardware at E3 or anytime soon.”
The e-mail went on to state that Microsoft was still focused on the Xbox 360 and still saw life in the console.
“For us, 2012 is all about the Xbox 360 – and it’s the best year ever for Xbox 260.” He continued, “The console is coming off its biggest year ever – a year in which Xbox outsold all other consoles worldwide.”
However, even that statement still has many unconvinced, as they, mostly gamers, are adamant that the Xbox 720 will be hinted at in some way or the other at E3.
The Xbox 360 is the best selling console in North America and has increased its market share in Europe as well, yet it still struggles in the Japanese market as the divide between Western and Japanese culture becomes apparent.
Sony has also stated that they will not be showing off any new next generation hardware and are focused on making 2012 the year of the PlayStation Vita.
The only truly ‘next-gen’ thing gamers have to look forward to then is the Nintendo Wii U, which, according to Epic games, is going to surprise everyone.
