Microsoft word? could not create the work file? help?

i am trying to change a document in word and it pops up and says: word could not create the work file. check the temp environment variable? what does this mean? what do i do? i can change the document but can not save it. please help me. thanks

  1. In short:

    1) create a main folder on the root directory called:

    c:\temp

    then instead of assigning the tmp and temp "user variables" to the windows temp folder, set them to the root directory folder above "c:\temp".

    As an added benefit for having this central root directory for the temp files, also go to control panel internet options and move your internet temporary folder into the root folder as well.
