i was working on an assigment and as i finished i started a spell checker and it froze. I assumed that i would be able to get back into it on document recovery but it failed. i then went into my temp files and found a temperary word document that is it. On entering the file it opens microsoft word and a window with thats titled 'file conversion' and it askes me to choose which encoding makes the document visible. None of the options avaible enable me to see the origional document but it does show me individual words of it all broken up with clear centred squares. does anyone have any idea how i can recover my document? is there a download or a program i can use to open it?

  1. Try to check it in the document history...I hope you did not disable the history in group policy..that's the best solution so far...

    Follow the simple step below.

Start -> Documents -> (The filename of your doc)

  2. you may have activated something on one of the toolbars, the clear squares indicate spaces in between words. Find the right tool bar and disable the setting and it should return to normal, if you go into word r/click in toolbar area and all your toolbars drop down, could be formatting, text, or another one, you will find it and a hint , save doc every paragraph, then you don't loose as much especially on assignments etc.

  3. if all else fails, just retype your doc.  surprisingly you will remember it and it be as quick as mucking around

    open word

    hit F1

type recover doc in the help search field

    also type automatic save

    then type edit normal.dot

open normal.dot which is the master template and set the automatic save
