Microsoft working on two Xbox 720 models, one to cater to casual gamers – Rumour

According to a report on GamesIndustry.biz, Microsoft are planning to release two distinct versions of their next generation console.
Dubbed the Xbox 720, though Microsoft themselves have not confirmed whether or not that will be the official name of their next generation console, the third generation of Microsoft’s consoles may very well see the company split its console to suit the needs
of different gamers.
One model will focus mainly on hardcore gaming and is expected to come with a Hard Drive and backwards compatibility, which will allow it to run and play games from previous Microsoft consoles. This model is set to be the true successor as the console of
choice for Xbox fans.
According to the report this version of the console will be, “a more fully-featured machine with optical drive, hard disk and backward compatibility aimed at the hardcore (and) would be released at a higher price point.”
It seems with Microsoft, you get what you pay for, nothing more and nothing less.
The other console which will also be a part of Microsoft’s next generation will be aimed at the casual gamer market. Casual gamers have always been put off by the Xbox which has a reputation of being the more adult oriented console catering towards first
person shooters and action games, unlike the family friendly Nintendo Wii and the versatile PlayStation 3.
The report pointed out that this version of the next generation Xbox would be a, “pared down system to be released as cheaply as possible and positioned more along the lines of a set-top box (the use of 360 as a Netflix viewing platform in the US is colossal)
and perhaps as a Kinect-themed gaming portal.”
So if one was to take a look at that description it seems that it would be a stripped down console more for an all-round home entertainment experience instead of a pure bred gaming console. It is also expected to be priced lower than its fire breathing more
expensive broth
The report also suggested that the motion control savvy Microsoft Kinect would also have a part to play in the next generation as well, with a more powerful iteration expected to join the Xbox family.
There has been no confirmation or denial from Microsoft on the matter, yet the video game industry has a history of not being able to keep any major secrets, something that Microsoft’s counterparts, Sony, know all about.
Analysts and experts have put the next generation of Microsoft’s consoles in a number of windows for release, with some claiming it could be out next year while others are placing it in the 2013-2014 region.
