  1. Man that is funny, I actually have both of these knives..

I prefer something that isn't 100% noticeable. The problem with the CQD and the Socom is that they are pretty big, using the smaller counterparts is the way to go in my opinion.

I use a Mini Socom Elite for my everyday carry and I love it.

Low Profile, Incredibly fast deployment, very reliable.

I have a MOD CQD mark II (pretty much the same as the Mark 1) and a couple of other MODs, the only problem I have with them is that they are all pretty high profile outside of your pocket. Especially if you have the glass breaker.

I also highly reccomend Emerson's Karambit for a good solid self defense knife (provided it has the WAVE feature on it), especially if you study how to use it. Not to mention Emerson is a little more affordable, and still of solid quality.

Honestly comparing MOD and MIcrotech, I would go with a Microtech about 90% of the time on a knife to knife basis.

MOD does have some low profile OTFs, but Microtech has better OTFs in my opinion.

In reality both will do what you really need it to do in a self defense situation. Personally i just prefer to not have a noticable weapon on me, and I prefer low profile knives, and holsters. I don't try to advertise that I am carrying anything, this is also helpful when going to the bar (Leave the gun in the car or at home) and it doesn't arouse a ton of suspicion or have you picked out from the bouncers asking you to take your knife to the car. (As a bouncer I did this constantly anytime I saw a knife, of course I also knew how to look for them constantly).

So to me, a knife that you can wear everyday, (even to work) that isn't a big @ss "Hey Look at this KNIFE", is the way to go for me. I prefer low profile, unnoticeable, quick deployment and reliability.

I have had problems with MODs for every day carry as the are somewhat large profile, and after a while you end up having to tighten them up constantly. I don't have to do anything with my Microtech but keep it sharp.

    Just my opinion... great question.
