Question:

Microwave 2hotdogs = burn marks?

I just ate 2 hotdogs for dinner (not vegetarian) and I noticed that only the places where the hotdogs touched got burned.

I wanted one more, so I put it in there by itself and it had no burn marks.

So what does two hotdogs touching in a microwave have to do with these burn marks?

  1. Interesting question. This just happened to me yesterday. I think it has something to do with the contact points between the hot dogs not allowing heat to radiate away from the hot dogs. Microwaves work by "exciting" water molecules. This means the microwaves vibrate the molecules, causing friction which in turn produces heat. If the heat is trapped between the hot dogs, I'm guessing that causes the burning.
