Our GE Spacemaker Microwave Oven door has developed a scratch on the inside, exactly where the bottom of the door meets the oven floor. This was covered by a thin veneer and while I did not use any abrasive product, it has just worn through. I cleaned the oven gently as needed, and had just recently wiped it clean. Then when I next used it, it make a horrible noise as it came on, so I stopped it immediately and looked for the source. Even though it is about ten years old, we don't use the microwave all that often, so I would prefer to repair rather than replace. I don't know the model number but it has an exhaust hood. Can we just put a strip of tape over the scratch? If so, what would be best: adhesive, masking, duct, etc. I know we should avoid anything with nylon fibers as that could ignite. Thanks.
