Microwave oven works while door is open

Question

My parents microwave (Panasonic NN-S740BA) oven seems to be working while the door is open. While the door is open the turntable is going around, the light is on and it makes the same sound as if you were to press in a time and press the START button. Is it possible the microwaves could be on and escaping while this is going on with the door open?
