Mid Dancer creates history by winning Steeple-Chase De Paris
Mid Dancer elegantly inscribed his name in the horseracing history by becoming just the third horse to win the Gras Savoye Grand Steeple-Chase De Paris, the high-profile French event that was first held in 1874.
The C. Aubert-trained experienced bay gelding ran under Sylvain Dehez to trigger a mammoth upset in the mega marathon that took place at Auteuil racecourse on Sunday, May 20.
Running against 18 strong rivals, the 11-year-old horse demonstrated a decent run and paved his way towards victory convincingly and surprisingly.
Till a few seconds after the start of the race, no one among the huge spectators could imagine that Mid Dancer would be able to finish even in top five as he was tumbling on 15th position. But the maverick sprinter excellently picked up a rock-solid
pace and managed to take lead within twinkling of an eye.
This outstanding victory by the brilliant runner was quite an unbelievable incident for most of the punters who were underestimating him before the beginning of the ace event.
However, Mid Dancer received immense applause and greetings along with bagging a big prize cheque.
While speaking to the media during the post-race presentation ceremony, Herve Barjot, the racing manager of the winner’s owner Pegasus Farms, said, “He was 12th or 15th in the back straight and he's a remarkable horse to have the resources
to come back from there”.
He further told, “He's a horse out of the ordinary but even so I never imagined he could win this race for a third time, five years after his first success.”
“Sylvain rode a brilliant race because he was a long way back after making a mistake at the water jump. But he gave him time to regain his rhythm and then chose the perfect moment to attack.”
Mid Dancer owns a terrific track record. Out of his total 41 starts, he has won 25 to date, earning £2,556,312. Since the very beginning of his success-studded career, he has been a consistent performer.
By winning this race, the maverick gelding has established himself as a favourite prospect in the betting market.
