Mid West Rhinos 65 & 341/4 (87.0 ov) v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matabeleland-Tuskers-c815 216 - Mid West Rhinos lead by 190 runs with 6 wickets remaining
At stumps on day-two of the four-day match between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mid-West-Rhinos-c816 and Matabeleland Tuskers, the Rhinos lead by 190 runs with six wickets in hand at Kwekwe Sports Club.
They were, however pulverised in their first innings when they crumbled after posting a meagre score of 65. The side was destroyed by Matabeleland’s RG Querl and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KO-Meth-c1803 who took five and four wickets.
The Tuskers then raced to 176 for eight at stumps on the first day of play, and although they also lost too many wickets, still they were in a better position from their rivals.
It was evident that the wicket was by no means a batting surface, meaning that batsmen from both teams would have to go an extra mile in their second innings in order to subdue their opposition.
The bowlers, on the other hand, felt blessed as they tasted success even on bad deliveries.
The second day of play began with RG Querl and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CB-Mpofu-c1219 coming out to resume their side’s first innings.
However, it was not too long before the fielding side drew first blood when Muzhange clean-bowled Mpofu for eight.
With nine wickets down, the Tuskers were sitting on 180 runs and were seeking an end to their innings with something around 200 runs.
The last pair of RG Querl and N Ncube put-up a strong resistance as the batsmen took the score to 216 before N Ncube fell after scoring 28 runs. Querl stood tall with his unbeaten knock of 40 runs.
From the Rhinos, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/EC-Rainsford-c1415 and R Muzhange were the top performers with three and four wickets.
Mid West had an average start to their second innings where they lost two wickets with just 24 on the board.
The start was once again troublesome and needed some maturity from the remaining batting line-up to avoid an early collapse.
They lost their third wicket with 31 on the board, and looked trapped in the pits of h**l before skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BRM-Taylor-c1200 and MN Waller moulded a stupendous partnership that left their opposition standing in disbelief.
The two batsmen helped take their side to 288 runs with the skipper hammering a brilliant innings of 140.
The Rhinos ended the day on 341 runs with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MN-Waller-c1989 unbeaten on 132 alongside SM Mugava, who will resume his batting from 24 runs.
