Question:

Mid-alto female voice, I need an audition song?

So I have a mid-alto voice and I'm trying out for the school musical. I have NO IDEA what the musical is, but last year, I picked a really bad song. It totally didn't suit my voice range at all, even though I got myself a part.

I really don't like high notes, but if a song has a few, I'm okay with that. I can also hold notes for a really long time if they're not high or too low. Actually, I think my ability to hold notes is what AMAZINGLY got me a role last year. lmao.

So...what songs would you recommend I sing?

BONUS* do you guys know of any websites where you can listen to musical soundtracks for free. I really hate having to download stuff of iTunes when I can't even listen to the whole darn song before buying it.

PLUS: I would appreciate a song that is upbeat and lively, but not crazy fast. :D

  1. i amnot good wit music but you should do something withthe rythm of distubia. dont pick my answer its so stupid

  2. I hate giving people audition song suggestions on the internet (there's more to selecting a good song for a person than knowing what their vocal range is), but you can find all sorts of songs from musicals on youtube videos if you just want to hear something.

  3. hello!

"always true to you in my fashion" from kiss me kate.

"mama will provide" from once on this island.

"always a bridesmaid" from i love you, you're perfect, now change.

"western people funny" from the king and i.

"let me entertain you" from gypsy.

    "maybe this time" from cabaret.

"take me or lead me" from rent. (joanne's part preferably, but either will do)

    "all that jazz" from chicago.

"take back your mink" from guys and dolls.

"why do the wrong people travel" from sail away.

"an english teacher" from bye bye birdie.

and this one isn't so upbeat, but "i'm not that girl" from wicked is perfect for an alto. :)

try searching in myspace music for just the title of the song you're looking for. a lot of times, people will upload it and name the band after the name of the song. :D

hopes this helps. break a leg!
