Midday might switch to Breeders’ Cup Turf and take on the boys from Filly and Mare Turf
With an awesome record in the Breeders’ Cup in her only two appearances, Midday is changing her course of actions as she opts out Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf and goes against the males in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf at Churchill Downs on 5 November,
2011.
Though trainer Sir Henry Cecil pre entered the 5-year-old mare in both Breeders’ Cup races, but her connections showed immense interest in the Turf this year and that is why the Turf was listed as her first preference.
Previously, in the 2009 and 2010 running of the Breeders’ Cup, Midday represented her connections in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf and did extremely well on both occasions.
The Great Britain bred daughter of Oasis Dream, out of Midsummer by Kingmambo, Midday in 2009 won the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf and then in her second attempt at the same race in 2010, the experienced mare got necked out to finish second.
It was Shared Account, who packed a punch in the last few yards of the 1 3/8 mile race, and covered the distance in 2 minutes and 17.74 seconds.
The motivation behind switching to Breeders’ Cup Turf is solely the distance, because the longer distance of the Turf which 1 ½ miles as compare to the 1 3/8 long Filly and Mare Turf, but plans are still to be firmed up with trainer Sir Henry Cecil.
Over at the distance of 1 ½ miles, Midday has gone on to race once this year, in the Grade 1 Coronation Cup at Epsom Downs on 3 June, 2011. Midday got beaten by the rampant St Nicholas Abbey who covered the classic distance in 2 minutes and 37.18 seconds.
As far as accomplishments this season are concerned, her best would be by far the win in the Grade 1 Nassau Stakes at Goodwood on 30 July, 2011, over at the distance of 1 ¼ miles when she defeated a star studded caste including Snow Fairy and Principal Role,
who finished second and third, respectively, with the winning time of 2 minute and 7.72 seconds.
