Midday retired to the paddocks after an illustrious career for Sir Henry Cecil
The mare that helped Sir Henry Cecil catapult back to stardom is now retired to the paddocks, as Sir Henry Cecil confirmed that the brilliant 5-year-old bay mare, Midday, has retired from racing and will not race anymore.
Foaled on 21 March, 2006, Midday is the proud daughter of Oasis Dream, out of mare Midsummer by Kingmambo. She was last seen racing at Kentucky when she participated in the Grade 1 Emirates Airline Breeders’ Cup Turf at Churchill Downs on 5 November, 2011.
She finished 6th in the race under jockey Tom Queally to winner St Nicholas Abbey, who wrapped up the 1 mile and 4 furlong race over a ground rates as firm.
K Abdulla owned mare ran 23 races in all of her career and managed 9 wins out of those starts, and out of those 9 wins were 6 Group One wins.
Her last win came at Goodwood race course under jockey Tom Queally in the Group 1 Markel Insurance Nassau Stakes British Champions’ Series for Fillies and Mares.
Midday defeated the likes of Snow Fairy and Principal Role at about a mile and 2 furlong long turf course which was rated as good to firm.
Midday was the reason why Henry Cecil found his winning form again after a torturous time in the sport. She provided Sir Henry Cecil with his first win in the Breeders’ Cup when she went on to claim the Filly and Mare Turf back in 2009 under her regular
rider Tom Queally.
"Midday has been such a consistent mare and with six Group Ones to her credit she has proved herself to be a real champion," the Warren Place handler told his official website.
"At the Breeders' Cup last week she showed signs that she had enough and, although she by no means disgraced herself, her performance was a long way from her best.
"We will be sorry to see her leave Warren Place but we shall keep an eye on her and visit her at Banstead Manor Stud."
Midday amassed a massive £2,239,007 in earnings and place prize money and gave Sir Henry Cecil the reason to smile again.
