Game 6; Abe 2; Bart: 5

1. In the seventh game, Abe scored 20 pointes and Bart scored 0 points. Find the mean, median, and mode of each player's points for seven games.

2. How are the measures of central tendency for Abe's & Bart's scores affected by the points scored in the seventh game?

4. Emily scored 75, 85, 35, 85, 70, 10 on her first 6 math quizzes. What score does Emily need on her seventh quiz so that after 7 quizzes she will have a median score of 75?

5. The greatest score Emily can make on a math quiz is 100. Explain whether it is possible for her to have a mean score of 70 after taking the seventh quiz.

Ok you have to know your definitions.

1.

Mean-the average. So add up each player's score and then divide by the total number of entries. So the mean of Bart's score is: 15+0+0+12+13+5+0= 45. 45/7=6.42....

Median--the middle number. So arrange all of the numbers in order and find the one in the middle, so for Bart: 0 0 0 5 12 13 15 the middle number is 5. So the median is 5.

Mode--the number repeated the most. So for Bart the mode is 0. I will leave it to you to find the same for Abe.

2.

The central tendancies are the mean, median, and mode. So recalculate them all only for games 1-6. And see if the seventh game made it higher, or lower for each (mean, median and mode)

3.

The outliers are the numbers that are extreme. Abe has relatively low numbers then a really big number, 20 in game 4. So recalulate the mean, median, and mode without game 4.

4.

Median score, again is the one in the middle. So you have to put the numbers in order: 10, 35, 70, 75, 85, 85, ___. You would need any number higher than 75 to make 75 the middle number.

5.

Mean=average. 75+85+35+85+70+10+100=460   460/7=65.7

So no it is not possible for her to have a mean score of 70 after the 7th quiz.
