what are some famous paitings, types of sculptures or arcitecture from the middle ages?

Middle ages is a rather difficult term as it's time frame is not exactly settled. The Middle ages are generally considered to be from the 5th to the 15th century and tends to be broken up in early, high and late middle ages. I would look at the book of Kells for early middle ages celtic art,  as well as byzantine frescoes at the bascillica of san vitale,  and for architecture Charlamagne's Aachen Cathedral.
