You are in a 6 player cash game on ftp. .25/.5. Effective stacks: 45. You are utg 1 and you raise to 1.5 with TdTc. You have been opening alot, but kinda passive postflop. CO decides to 3-bet to 5 dollars... He hasnt 3-bet all that much, but the one time he 3-bet and it went to showdown he showed 78dd. He is kind of fishy and doesnt know how to v-bet very well. He also overvalues his hands.

Anyways, you decide to call. Flop comes out Ad9d3d. Pot is 10.75. He bets 7.25. You call.

Turn is Kd. What is your plan now?

  1. Being that the player's a fish and doesn't know how to valuebet, I'm checking the turn, planning to check/call or check/raise all in based on what you know about the guy.  Even fish know that four diamonds on the board is bad news, so you probably can't play this fast unless the guy's got AQ or AJ with the diamond or QQ with the Qd, which is obviously not good.  However if he's the kind of guy that doesn't like getting pushed around, then you probably can go for the check/raise all in, and he'll think you're only representing the diamonds, and make a dead call with AK or something like that.  But my default play would be check/call, then fire the river.

The pot's at $25, so if he bet again for 2/3 or 3/4 pot, then you can shove the river, and it'll only be a fraction of the pot, and in my opinion is more likely to be called by a fish than agression when the 4th diamond hits.

If he checks behind, well then he's probably scared of those diamonds, betting would've made him fold, and the only chance for any more money from him is a small valuebet of like another $7 or so on the river.

  2. You may be up against pocket queens or jacks or an ace with a Qd or Jd kicker.  He might also have aces with another kicker other than these cards.  What he does on the turn will tell you a lot and I`d have to know that before I could tell you anything.  If he gets more aggressive here you are probably in trouble.

  3. this is a pretty easy one here imo, i think you have to bet out, probably for not more than half the pot...if he overvalues his hands as you say, there's a chance that he will call with a hand like A-Q if we don't scare him with an oversized bet, and there's a very good chance he'll call if he has A-K...on the same token, if we check there's a very good chance that he wouldn't bet A-K or A-Q with no diamond, so we're missing out on value there...if we bet say $13 and get raised i think we can still safely fold this hand even for just $20 more because there's almost no chance that we have the best hand in that situation

edit: neither do i, but it sure beats getting zero streets of value, or even worse folding the best hand(which is one possible result of a check in this spot)
