This is my first time doing cross country. Today I ran one mile in Approx. 8 minutes 20 seconds. In your guy's/girl's opinions is that good for just starting? I was also in track last year, but in short distance.

  1. no.

  2. Are you a sixth grader a seventh grader or an eight grader? Last year when I was in seventh grade I did a 6:15 mile and still got kicked. The winner always did it in 5:10.

  3. Well, that's good for just starting yes.

  4. umm well honestly, its just a decent time. the first time i ran the mile for track i got 8:01 (im a girl) and i was like the 10th person to finish. if you keep practicing, you'll improve a lot. good luck for your season!

  5. You have some work to do

(sorry i don't feel like elaborating)

  6. That is amazing. It translates to 2 minutes a lap (around a standard size track). I wish I could run that well.

  7. It depends on whether you are male or female. A male your age should be able to easily run a mile in between 6 minutes and 7.5 minutes. A female your age should be able to run a mile in between 7.5 and 9 minutes.

  8. yah

  9. I can run one mile in 6 min. 21 sec....but wat u did is verrrrry good..

  10. thats very good

  11. For never running cc before, I'd say that's pretty good. It's pretty rare to see short distance track runners try to run cc, so I applaud you for that. If you train hard and push yourself you may be able to improve quite a bit, so stick with it and see what you can do. Even if you are better at short distance and that's what you like to do more, staying with cc will help you stay in shape and make you a better runner and athlete in general.

  12. It depends...Were you running as fast as you could or just taking it easy?  With running experience, even short distances, running fast for a mile should be at least under 8 minutes, easily.  For a guy, maybe even under 7 minutes with no training.  But running easy (meaning, you can hold that pace for more than one mile), that's good for a first run.  Keep in mind, though, cross country covers long distances, so only running a mile won't help you much unless you gradually add distance to that.

  13. Yeah for first attempt, I mean I did a 12 minute first time but got it down to 6.28 near the end of the track season so it's not impossible to become somewhat respectable in time.

  14. It depends if you're a guy or a girl.

  15. actuallyy yeah

im not a runner but when i ran a mile in7 th grade last year it took me ten minutes.

    good jobb :]

  16. thats pretty bad i am in cross country and i run a 7 and a half min mile easy

  17. It's good for just begining...but don't let that make you feel comfortable with it. Always push yourself to faster speeds. That's the key.

  18. Yeah, I'd say it is. For the one mile run in PE, I get around nine minutes. Someone in that same class got four minutes, though.

  19. good time. i used to run about 9:20 in middle school but i didn't try my hardest.

  20. Thats good compared to me who gets 8:26 but i have friends  who in 6th grade got  6:30s or lower

  21. hey don't listen to the people that are telling that's bad me i think that's pretty good but just keep working at and you'll get better

  22. thats pretty good but i am in 6th grade and run a mile in 7:50

  23. if you are a guy, thats bad, if you are a girl, just keep working at it, you should get to 6 mins or 7 mins though.

  24. i'd say stick to the short distance, in middle school you need to be running sub eight max to be competitive, sorry not everyone can do the distance.

  25. it's okay for your first time but cross country usually run longer distances so you need to build indurence.

  26. good.

    =)

  27. that's an average time, so yeah pretty good.

but the guys in my weight training get it done in 4-5 minutes.
