  1. Your local library can help you find information on the laws in your state, and may know of homeschooling groups that meet in your local area (because homeschoolers often spend a lot of time at the library researching things they're interested in!)

You can also check out this website that has a wide variety of information.

    http://www.homeschool.com/

There are so many different ways to homeschool.  Some people sign up with a private school, which assigns homework and has get -togethers.  Some people buy books which tell the parents exactly what to say, as though the teacher had just walked out of the room for a minute(Calvert is one of these).  Some people use sets of workbooks (Alpha Omega Publications or Lifepacs), My son enjoyed a school when he was young where they tried to teach mostly by projects, and you read only to help with the projects (http://www.moorefoundation.com/article.p...

Some schools are religious, some are not.

Some people get a Typical Course of Study (from World Book Encyclopedia)

you can find out what should be learned at a certain grade and just study that.

  2. Florida has a free virtual school (but it may not be any better than what you have now) that gives a Florida diploma and the credits may even transfer to the brick schools (check to make sure).

Basically you have to look up the Florida homeschool laws and comply with those rules and regulations.

Then you select a course of study that complies with their rules, if any, or otherwise meets your needs and finances.

In some areas you can pick and choose, use library books.  In other areas you have to use an accredited system.

So you have to look up the florida state Homeschool laws.

Basically it says you have to notify the district within 30 days of starting the homeschool and notify them when it ends.

You must keep work sheets, essays, tests, workbooks and papers showing that you are doing educatonal work for 2 years and must show these on demand to the school board.

You must be tested or evaluated once a year by a certified teacher or through a state or national test.  You can be tested at a school facility under law, but may have to pay for that.

You can participate in afterschool intermural activities, such as cheerleading, football.

Florida colleges cannot refuse you admittance because of homeschooling.

  4. i am in 7th too, and i have been homeschooling since 1st grade. my mom uses the 'well trained mind' program....look it up on google

  5. I am in 8th grade and have been homeschooling all my life. I believe you are making a good choice. For science I am using the Apologia coarse by Jay L. Wile. It is great! I am learning so much! His course starts at 7th grade and goes till 12th, so your perfect!

Math, I use Saxon. You can take a placement test online and see which book is your level.

Writing, I don't take a formal textbook on this subject, though I use to use the A. Becca ones. But there are tons of writing, penmanship, and grammar books out there to help you out.

There are some laws for homeschooling, go the hslda.org to find out the laws for your state.

There are tons of places online where you can find more info on homeschooling, google it and you will find out!

    Happy Homeschooling!

  6. If you're just starting in 7th grade, you might ask your mom to let you 'deschool' for a semester.  While I'm not an advocate of unschooling, students starting in the middle often need time to regroup -- a time of just reading a lot that interests you.  Then start on the academics.  Connect with a support group (the hslda site is a good one to visit) where you can meet other homeschooled teens.  Find a program that works for you.  The nice thing about homeschooling is that you can tailor it to what YOU (plural) want it to be.

I have middle schoolers who learn best hands-on.  Lots and lots of field trips to supplement the basics.
