  1. i was scared to when iwent to middle school to but its not as bad as u think. lockers-not to worry, u just have topratice and once u get it ur good!! theres not that much homework really, u can usally get it done in class. teachers, well u just have to be on there good side, just dont be a teachers pet because that can hurt ur rep!!!! just be urself to make friends. treat people the way u want to be treated and things will fall into place!!

    Just Have FUN!!

    hope i helped!  :D

  2. Ok dont flip out about your locker ok your teachers will tell you everything. Oh and dont worry about homework all you got to do is just do it! Its so easy to pass just do what your told and get it over with. Oh and for making new friends try to be nice as possible but dont let people walk over you oh and this is going to sound mean and stuff but try to stay away from the kids people make fun of just becuase they might just start making fun of you. Oh if there is a certain kind of trend going around like i dont know a certain kind of shoe or something go with it. But dont follow it if its something dumb like kissing people or having s*x =D k? Relax middle school is so fun oh and if you want to know a project thing here it goes save all your school ids form 6-8th grade and see how much you have changed oh and your going to discover alot about your self these coming years like music boys and stuff so be ready for that but dont hype your self up your going to have so much fun

  3. i live in saudi arabia so school wouldnt start for like after 1 n a half  or  2 months, n idk wt do u mean by middle school, cuz i have this thing in my head that there is till 8th grade then there is high school, so define which grade u r, n ill b more than happy to help u cuz im gonna be a freshman n i think i might b a good help, cuz i've been a close freind w/ almost every kind of personality!!! so just email me with ur questions! =PpP

  4. locker-dont lock it. no one  had a lock for there locker at my school, even though we were given it.

homework- just do your best on it. the teachers didnt even check it for me

teachers- they ove it when you go for extra help. they love students who take their work seriously

new friends- be yourself, nothing more than that.

  5. You're probably expecting an answer like "Be yourself & you'll do fine" which is true but won't completely help you out. I remember when i was in middle school a few years ago and i was scared... thought the kids would be bigger than me, pick on me, the teachers would be "evil" and give us loads of h.w. that i wasn't familiar with.... Its hardly like that. Don't worry about it too much. You may not end up friends with everyone, but trust me, you'll have a good amount of friends as long as you dont try to go changing for anyone else .... that'll get you nowhere..... So yeah..... Just be yourself and try not to worry too much.

        * Don’t judge friends to quickly.

        * Try school clubs to meet friends.

        * Walk up say Hi see how they respond and say "want to be friends?" although if it's too direct, it might creep them out.

        * You could also be someone's friend by just talking to them and hanging out with them alot. This is how most friendships start, even without ever asking "Want to be friends?".

        * don’t be afraid to get new friends

  7. You will be fine :)  I remember how anxious I was when that level was referred to as 'junior high school' back when ;)  It only took a bit of practice with the lockers.  Perhaps writing down the few steps (I write down Everything :) can help with the anxiety too.  Regarding homework, please do keep a calender of daily assignments and upcoming exams and quizzes.  Folders can help with organization and I'd preferred a separate notebook (and perhaps different shade) for each class as opposed to one big binder as it's less heavy to carry around and can seem less overwhelming.  Regarding friends, just try to surround one's self with positive people that are interested in doing well in their academics as well as in afterschool activities.

On a slightly different note, please steer clear of reckless behaviors to either "fit in" or self-medicate including not using inhalants ("huffing" fumes or gas) includes helium from a balloon and nitrous oxide from a whipped cream dispenser as huffing any type of gas or solvent can cause brain tissue loss, seizures, limb spasms, hearing loss, bone marrow (fatty inner lining of bones that makes blood cells) damage, other organ damage and even death after "just" one time -- "the choking game" which includes forced hyperventilation can cause a stroke ("brain attack"), seizures and death -- water intoxication can occur from having a 'water drinking contest' resulting from depletion of salt/sodium in the system -- 'car/truck surfing' is quite deadly and dangerous too.

For more info on the dangers of huffing:  http://www.inhalants.org

Just fyi that it may also be a good idea to look up some 'politically correct' terms when referring to people's culture such as using the term 'african american' for people of color, 'native american' for those from india (though they may refer to themselves as 'indian'), and those from asia -- china, japan, taiwan, philippines are generally referred to as 'asian' as opposed to 'chinese' or 'japanese'.  It can only help the person to seem culturally sensitive and more intelligent :)

  8. Don't worry about it...I was nervous when I started middle school and then the second I started high school I wanted to go back to 8th grade. Everyone's nervous when they start and worry about the same things you do, but don't sweat it...locker's aren't a problem, and homework isn't nearly as bad as it is in high school. All my middle school teachers were nice, and the friends issue was a bit tough at first but after a few weeks everyone is settled and friends aren't a problem either. Hope you have a good start =)

  9. Well, last year, was my first year in high school, so I can understand how scary a new school level can be. As far as the locker goes, there not as hard as you'd think. They can get stuck some times, but you'll get it in no time. For me, I never noticed a huge difference in homework from year to year. And just be yourself! That's the best way to make new friends!

    =)

  10. do not panic!

my sister all have been in middle school they said you will not have that much home work to deal with only with mean teachers.so...be nice to all the teachers and try not to get in trouble!now about friends it is easy just be yourself and talk to a lot of people if someone dosent like you who cares!ignore them!i know that you will meet alot of new people but you wil have so much new friends trust me!at the end of the year see if i am right ;)

  11. Locker? You may have trouble at first, but as long as you remember your combo you will be fine. If you cant figure it out, ask a teacher/hall monitor to help you out.. or even better, a cute guy!

Middle school homework is nothing compared to high school homework, but the best tips I can give you is

1- DO NOT PROCRASTINATE, just get it done. You will feel better afterward.

2- if your teachers offer tutorials, take them up on it. It's not only a good way to advance in class, but you can get your homework done during that time, and some teachers will practically do it for you.

    Making new friends?

That should be easy, just be yourself, don't talk behind peoples back, and don't lie.

  12. okay. yeah i was the same way

    LOCKER

    - the first time i went to open my locker was my 6th grade orientation, where kids come to the school like a week before school actaully starts to meet thier teachers and see their classes. the first time i tried, the locker opened. but when school started, for some odd reason, it would always get stuck, i would always get late for class. so a tip would be that when your opening your locker, dont rush, dont panic if it doesnt open, and ask for help from a teacher. for now, you can buy a lock and practice unlocking it.

    HOMEWORK

-honestly, i really never did my homework and just copied it from kids at school. but since i always did that, i was doing poorly in my classes. just pick 1 hour in the day at home to do your homework, turn off all tv's, radio's, find a desk, and make sure you have all your supplies. if you need help, you can always go on the computer if yoU dont understand things. i go to BRAIN POP sometimes, they have videos on alot of things that help me understand alot more. lol  make homework very neat, and read when you need to.

TEACHERS- there was a teacher i really hated at the beginning of the year, who almost failed me on a alot of tests because i didnt grade a kids test right. there are gonna be stupid teachers, that are way to stubborn, that you want to kill. just remember that in a year, YOU NEVER HAVE TO SEE THEM AGAIN!

    FRIENDS

-to make friends, talk, go to their houses. i have  best friend who lives pretty close and we go to eachothers houses to help eachother study or understand things. remember that life isnt about school, and MORE THAN HALF of everything you learn in middleschool, you will NEVER need in life when you get older, so try hard, but remember that school isnt everything. always try to have a good thing.

    -hope i helped

    america

  13. first, middle school is totally fun!! probably the funniest years ever,TRY TO GET TO SIX GRADE CAMP!

about homework and teachers, on homework DON'T SLACK! even on the little things lot of the times it catches up to you DON'T BE LAZY, ITS FATAL and try not to cause to many prob. in class if the teachers like you, you have a WAY higher chance of liking your grade, remember usual teachers want you to like them but they still have to do there jobs, and try to have fun these are the best years of your under 18 life, high school a little harder so love middle because its a little more homey then high school, you'll be a 6 grader  so you might get teased just a little but no worries not much, you'll be okay :) you'll prob have a LOT of drama heads up, follow good example, really don't give into to the bad stuff, you got it with out it! I'm sure you'll be fine at making new friends remember there all new at it too:))

and of course good luck!! you'll do great!

  14. that type of feeling is expected, excited then scard. anyway, opening a locker isn't hard, just know the numbers and turn the thing. one thing to do is to be organized. best to start that now cuz when you get to high school, homework will sometimes never end. schedule when you do things. do homwork first and hang out later so you don't have to worry about it later. start reports as soon as they are given, so you can finish them and not worry to cram everything the last minute. always be on the teachers good side. if you do your homework all the time the teacher will like you and most let you off when you one day randomly forget. usually you make friends by talking to classmates and those who are in the same acivities that you are doing. just be sure to be yourself.

i hope this helped. this is the same for high school.

  15. Don't worry, when i started a few years ago i was kinda nervous too but there isn't anything to worry about. Be yourself and make sure to find friends with similar interests, so you have things to talk about.

With the locker thing, to open the combination quick just remember the number and practice unlocking it (if you want to)One thing that i used to do is put in my combination after i was done with it but i wouldn't open it then when i needed something out of it quickly i just pull down n the lock and it opens.  :)  oh yes... keep you locker clean and as organized as possibe to avoid losing things, and being able to find things.

With the homework thing... Don't worry usually they start out kinda slow with work then as the year goes by it will get heavier but they will try not to drown you with home work. But if you get an assignment and it is due in a few days try to do it on a day when your homework load is lower so you dont panic on the last day to complete it.

    Teachers

if they are mean..try not to get on their bad side and also with mean teachers.. you can bring them up to start conversations with other kids to break the ice. if a teacher is really nice that sometimes means a few minuets of wasted time just talking

(One of my old 7th grade teachers did that, She was nice)

    MY TIPS

    Project partners

with my experience don't pick a really close friend as your partner. We ended up fighting... but then we decided to get over it and it didnt matter.

Pick people that are nice and good workers

Also dont pick someone that has to have everything perfect...because that would be a drag and annoying

    Locker rooms for PE

Don't worry they are not as bad as they are usually portrayed or spoken about. No one cares because everyone else is changing. No one has any reason to look at each other while undressing so they don't.

  16. Don't worry about it. Its not how the media portrays it. Do you really think the older kids give a d**n that there are smaller kids there. Or do you really think teachers are much different than the ones from elementary? Its just like elementary, just more classes and lots of different students.

  17. YEAH! You're starting middle school! It's a rite of passage and milestone in your life, congratulations! I began middle school almost 3 years ago, and I can definitely give you some tips.

    1. What I ALWAYS tell people who ask this question is what I learned from my biggest mistake starting middle school: okay, well, there were 2 biggest mistakes. 1) I tried too hard to be popular and EVERYONE noticed. So if you do try too hard by any chance (lol) just make sure no one notices (again, lollll). Anyway, my main biggest mistake #2 was: I WAS MEAN! I was a nerd already, so I found the nerdiest girl there was and picked on her. I feel terrible about it now. It just made me the laughing stock of the school when I lied to her and stuff. This is why if I could go back, I would be NICE! And not try as hard!

    2. Follow the fashion trends reasonably, but not totally! It's good to follow fashion trends if you like them, but your style should also be kinda individual! If you don't feel comfortable being too different or unique with your style, try this to still add some individual spark: wear shoes or jewelry or handbags that are unique and that you like and aren't wearing because of any trend. Try to add at least some individual spark to each outfit. One good example of this is this outfit based on this idea that I made on Polyvore.com:

    http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=27535...

    3. Dealing with a ton of homework--it can be annoying! But there are ways to make it more fun. If it doesn't distract you, listen to music or watch TV while you do your homework. What I did when I started middle school was, I would take one of my friends home with me and we'd do the work together on some days. That always made it more fun! If you have questions on the work, ask your teachers after class. For reading assignments, after you finish each chapter of a book, use a SparkNotes guide to review (SparkNotes.com, or you can get the book guides in bookstores or just print out pages from the web site). These are a good review and help a lot, but if you just read them without the book they may not be enough for you to pass your reading quizzes, you will be cheating and you may get caught (my English teacher kinda knew I was using SparkNotes. I got a C). eHow.com has tips on making homework fun. Check this one out, just for an example, although they have even more:

    http://www.ehow.com/how_2164980_spelling...

    4. Teachers--they may seem rough & tough, but there are easy ways to win them over.

    a) Pay attention in class and take notes.

    b) When you DO mess up big, wait until after class to sincerely apologize.

    c) Don't pass notes or talk too much in class--be respectful!

    d) Come to class on time or a little early. If you come a little early, ask the teacher how she/he is and have a little conversation.

    e) Sometimes offer to erase the dry erase board or something after class.

    f) Do your classwork & homework.

    g) Try your best!

    5. Making new friends may seem scary, difficult or complicated, but once you walk through those middle school doors, just be natural! Talk to people like they are normal human beings. Don't be too wierd and nerdy. Don't be too fake and ditzy. Just BE! It's normal to be a little closed or "fake" for the first few days, but you should get more relaxed eventually. Find a group that you like to hang out with, talk with & fit in with. Get to know the people you sit next to in class. For the first few days, it's okay to cheat & sit with some old friends for lunch--lol. Maybe you can try approaching new people as a group to make it easier!

    6. Can't remember your locker combo? Write it inside a folder/notebook you use often--BUT write it backwards, or else people can find the combination and open your locker. If you know you've written it backwards (be sure to somehow remember!) then you'll still have a way to always remember the combination. You can buy your lock (if your school doesn't provide them) before school starts and practice opening it at home.

Good luck and have fun and don't worry! --Amanda

  18. Alrighty, first i just want to say enjoy it! I'm going into 8th grade and probably one of the most important thing is to be organized, really. It is so much easier if you are organized. The locker thing i'm not so sure what to tell you..you'll get the hang of it trust me. it really isn't as hard as some people will tell you or as it looks, you may need help the first week, i did (: The homework(if your going into 5thOR6th) In my school it really wasn't that bad, just take your time on it and don't be afraid to ask questions if you have them. Teachers, just stay on their good side, im not saying be a total suck up but just don't give them a reason to dislike you and they'll love you! (:

    Hope i helped!

  19. you really in my opinion have less homework and make friends with some nice people it will just all pan out lockers are really easy and if you need help ask you will do great teachers are sometimes mean but find positive things about that class so you do not dread it as much and just think in a few months you wont even remember the first day of school :) just enjoy yourself it will go by very fast

  20. when i started middle school i thought the same thing..

and then a week later i thought how stupid i was for worrying so much.

trust me, its not that big of a deal at all.

the teachers will most likly be nice.

and the lock issue is not that big of a deal.

if you cant get it open.. there has to be a teacher with a key, so theres no problems. and the homework is not going to be that hard at first.

  21. i just ended middle school. and it was pretty fun years u know middle school changes you well mostly 8th grade year changes you. you really turn into an adult i cant explain how. you open your locker by going to the right to the left and to the right so r. l. r. lets say it 8 36 8 go on 8 go back left pass over 36 second time around go on36  then directly to the right on 8. hoped i helped

  22. okay everyone feels scared when starting middle school. its a big step from elementary school to a bigger school.

lockers:i was worried about that too i thought i would never memorize my combo, i knew it after 5 minutes. its wayy easy ask someone for help if you need it!

homework: everyone says that there will be alot of homework in middle school, but there isnt! there is only alot of homework like maybe once a week, so dont worry.

teachers: most middle school teachers are nice! well atleast some. =]

friends: im sure you will make some if you are nice to the people and be nice to the new kid in your grade. it will help

    hope my tips helped!

  23. Ah, middle school. I'm scared to sense i'm going into 7th. Well I find my homeroom, and the teacher tells you what to do and stuff. Make sure you bring a book with you. You will look at your schedule when the bell rings, and that teacher will tell you which class it's at. On the 2nd day of school the teacher normally helps you with the lockers. You don't have much time to go to your locker when the schedule is normal and you know where to go. Bring a lock with you just in case the other lockers don't work as well.

  24. In 20 days I'm starting my 3'rd, and last, year in middle school. Middle school isn't anything to be scared about, but for some reason I'm nervous about going back to school too. It' natural to be nervous on first day at middle school. At first it's sorta tricky getting your locker open, but after a while you get it down. I think that I actually have less homework in middle school than I did in elementary school! But if you do have a lot of homework you can do it on your way home from school. If you can't consintrate on your homework, try going outside to a quiet place and do your homework. Some teachers are really awesome, but other teachers are just plain boring and unfair, the best way to handle the worst teachers is to just not say anything to them. I've made a lot  of new friends in middle school. The best way to meet new friends is to be yourself. I really hope that I've helped you out with this advice.Good Luck!!!

  25. I have had great success in high school. Not so much in middle school. What I wish I had known before starting middle school:

    1) Befriend your teachers by respecting them. Don't talk while they are talking. Don't use your phone in class. Do the in-class assignments you are assigned.

    2) Confidently volunteer when you know the answer.

    3) Reach out and make an effort to be friends with some new people. The best way to quickly make someone like you: flash them a big, genuine grin, and compliment something they are wearing, then introduce yourself.

    4) Sit in the second row. Not the front. This will keep you from being distracted but at the same time you won't be a suckup.

    5) Keep a daily planner that you record your homework assignments in. You can also use this to plan activities like sports practices or volunteer nights.

    6) Make yourself a homework schedule, a set period of time you will devote to the work, such as 3-4 PM. Do your assignments in order from hardest to easiest. Take little breaks to reward yourself for completing an assignment.

    7) Get plenty of sleep, even if your parents no longer care what time you go to bed.

    8) Eat a healthy breakfast so you'll have energy during the day.

  26. i remember starting middle school!

and now im starting high school pretty soon :/

trust me..you have NOTHING to worry about!!

the lockers-just remember your comb..and most teachers will give you a break the first couple days if you late to class because you cant get it open.

the homework-theres not too much..just always turn it in!!!!!

    teachers-stay on thier good side!

and making friends-most of the time..it just comes natrually.

and  you'll have to be with everybody in your grade now until twelve grade.

so i'd be nice to as much people as possible!

    hope this helps?

    and good luck..

    you'll be just fine :)

  27. Locker-

Don't worry, I was horrible and I got it open all the time, one time though I had to ask the hot guy down the row to open it, but it was all good :)

    Homework-

I'm smart but also pretty socail (meaning instead of listening I talk :):)  ) But I got almost all my homework done during school hours, it wasn't bad.

    Teachers-

Everyone will have to deal with the same teachers, and if they're bad think of it as a convo. starter, at least you'll have a common hatred of a teacher with all the kids in your class!

    Friends-

I have been in 8 diff. schools, and at all of them I made friends. Just be yourself, bond over common things *like homework, mean teachers, lockers, gym* And once you make one friend the rest just come in!

    Have FUN!

  28. ok well when i fisrt started middle school in 5th grade i was scared too...but now im going in 8th nd it was no big deal

with your locker its not tat big a deal i had a little problem nd i never really used a lock...nuttin happened but if u have to just memorize ur code or rite it down...if it ever gets stuck u can always ask for help as i said again its no big deal

teachers arent all that bad you may get some tough annoying hard teachers but again you will adjust...just be on your best behavior nd you wont have a problem

    ect.

    i hope i helped

  29. I was scared to start middle school too. I'm in high school now and I was scared for both. It's not as scary as it seems.

    Some tips:

    1. manage your time wisely. do your homework before fun.

    2. write your combination on a piece of paper and put it in your pocket until you remember it.

    3. teachers are there to help you. don't be afraid to ask questions!

    4. don't listen to rumors or gossip. it's usually not true. (don't start it either!)

  30. Hey girlie! I will help you!

Ok, well my first advice is to not stress out about it! Middle school is sooo fun!!! Those are the moments you want to treasure so make it your best!

Locker- Your teacher will teach you how to open it. I will try to explain but it is confusing to write it out.

Step 1. Clear the locker. Twist around past zero a couple times.

Step 2. Go to the FIRST number (right)

Step 3. Skip the first number then go to the second number (left)

Step 4. Go straight to the last number (right)

Homework- Right when you get home, go straight to your homework. That will help a lot! Cause you will try to put it off.

Teachers- RESPECT! Be nice and ask questions no matter what.

Friends- Be friendly and ask names and ask what classes they have...etc If you have classes with them talk to them and sit by them at lunch.

    Step 3.

  31. Good luck, middle school was the most awkward years of everyone's life.  It took me a while to get used to the whole lock on a locker and my mom had to come after school on the first day to teach me.  Homework won't be a lot in sixth grade, well, it shouldn't.  I remember that they do overwork you more in middle school than they do in high school.  Just don't goof off, don't make a terrible name for yourself.  Teachers will do little exercises the first couple days to help you meet new people, and really, it helps.  If you know someone from your elementary, I always found it easier to make new friends when you already have a friend you know with you.  You'll feel more comfortable.  Go to dances, go to social events, that's how I met my best friend throughout the years.  I met her through someone I knew from elementary!  So, keep your head up, it's a long journey.
