Middlesbrough winger found life tough under Gordon Strachan
Middlesbrough winger Marvin Emnes says that he found life under the club's previous manager Gordon Strachan difficult.
The 22-year-old struggled to impress Strachan, who told the player in August that there was no place for him in the first-team squad.
Emnes told the BBC that: "We had the new manager (Strachan) and things did not go well with him and me, and that is why I didn't play. He was the manager and his choice was to put some other players in, and I had to deal with that. It's not nice to play with
the reserves every day, you want to play with the first team and show what you can do."
Strachan, who left the club by mutual consent in October after a string of poor results, allowed the player to go on loan to Swansea for a month. Emnes impressed during his time there and scored two goals in four games.
Emnes added that: "I really enjoyed my time there and I was happy there. I had the chance to play and I had the chance to score some goals and I did that. It's always good to play games and enjoy your time and now I'm back here I have my chance here."
His performances at Swansea impressed his new manager at Boro, Tony Mowbray, who turned down a bid by Swansea to keep Emnes for longer and said that he is keen to give the winger a chance to shine in the first team at the Riverside.
Holland Under-21 cap Emnes joined the club in 2008, when he was signed for a fee of 3.2 million pounds from Sparta Rotterdam by ex-Boro manager Gareth Southgate.
The player has made 31 league appearances and has scored one goal for Boro.
