Lets not forget that this was the same Middlesbrough who had encountered Chelsea in 3 finals in the 7 years prior to this including an FA Cup Final, and also a side that reached the last 32 of the UEFA Cup in their first season, as well as the final the following year, beating Roma, Lazio, Stuttgart, Bucharest and Basle en route.
