Middlesex struggle against Yorkshire: County Championship Division One – Cricket News
Yorkshire have completely dominated their opponents Middlesex in the ongoing four-day County Championship Division One. At stumps on the second day of play, Middlesex trailed by 374 runs with nine wickets remaining in the first
innings, at Lord's, London.
After having ended the first day of play on 215 for two, Yorkshire resumed their innings with Alex Lees on 100 and skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Gale-c1039 on 61. However, before the pair could get going, Middlesex struck on the first delivery of the
day by nabbing Lees.
Then with 220 on the board, the batting side lost their fourth wicket when http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Lumb-c1981 Sayers was trapped in front of stumps by Tim Murtagh after scoring only a run.
Gale then crafted a commendable partnership with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AU-Rashid-c1106 as the two batsmen halted the bowling onslaught and kept the fielders on their toes.
This batting pair led the side towards 329 runs, before http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ollie-Rayner-c2139 bagged the prized wicket of Gale for 103.
Rashid was then joined by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867’s
batting line-up was left without cover and Middlesex then made a rapid comeback by bowling out their opponents for 390 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tim-Murtagh-c2673, Harris and Rayner all shared three wickets each to play an important role in the innings.
Middlesex openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Steven-Patterson-c2585 struck to dismiss Robson, who found his way back to the pavilion with
only five runs to his name.
With Rogers on six and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JL-Denly-c1703 yet to open his account, the day was called with Middlesex having posted 16 runs on the board.
Middlesex will now have to bat exceptionally well on the third day in order to at least draw the match, or else this match is not going away from Yorkshire. However, this is not going to be easy for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Middlesex-c817, as Yorkshire’s bowling
attack has the capacity to penetrate the defences of any side on a given day.
