Middlesex v Kent– Friends Life t20 (South Group) – Match Recap – Kent claim 3-wicket victory over Middlesex
Bolstered by Darren Stevens’ 3-wicket haul, which enabled them to limit their opposition to a paltry total of 124, Kent claimed a 3-wicket victory over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Middlesex-c817 during the ongoing Friends Life t20, played at the Uxbridge Cricket Club Ground on July 8.
Both teams found themselves bogged down by the conditions, with groundsmen having worked hard to make the surface playable after the recent rains. Kent won the toss and put Middlesex to bat first on a sluggish track which did not prove conducive for the
batsmen on either side.
Skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PR-Stirling-c2200 (12) got off to a good start opening with the captain, but their partnership was cut off at 27
runs by the dismissal of Stirling in the 5th over, at the hands of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mark-Davies-c74586.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Simon-Hewitt-Cook-c90350 and Stevens respectively, leaving the side at 74 for 3 by the 11th over.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robert-Key-c2349.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Ball-c41883 (3-0-18-2) polishing
off the lower order.
Adam Rossington (8), http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tom-Smith-c2704 (2) got their side up to 124 by the end
of 20 overs.
Although the pitch posed considerable difficulties for the batsmen, the target appeared to pose little difficulty for Kent’s batsmen, despite the efforts of Dexter (3-0-26-2) and Crook (4-0-21-2), and they got to 125 with an over to spare.
Openers Sam Northeast (21) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sam-W-Billings-c88204 (10) played mediocre innings, but while the latter was dismissed in the 2nd over, followed by skipper Key (3) in the 5th, Northeast managed to get his side up to 47 before he was sent back
to the pavilion in the 8th over, courtesy Wilkin.
The middle order of Stevens (26), Mahmood (30), and Blake (22) made vital contributions, and by the time the last of them (Mahmood) was dismissed in the 19th over, Kent were at 120 for 6. Final contributions by Ball (4) and Cook (1) got their
up to the target, enabling them to clinch a 3-wicket victory.
The win, however, offers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kent-c802 nothing more than the satisfaction of going out on a high, as both teams are at the end of their Friends Life t20 road, having been unable to qualify for the quarter-finals of the tournament.
