http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Northamptonshire-c824: County Championship Division Two – Middlesex’s Second Innings
Northamptonshire had gained an 82-run first innings lead against Middlesex in a match of County Championship Division Two at the Lord’s, London in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Saturday, August 13, 2011.
However, most of the first three days were affected by rain due to which a result did not seem very likely.
Middlesex had to bat a little over one day in order to end the game in a draw, but the team struggled at the start of the innings. However, Australia’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chris-Rogers-c1249 came to the rescue of his side, scoring a spectacular century on the final day’s play. The
team ended up with 313/8, as the match ended in a draw.
There was not much assistance for bowlers in the pitch on the final day, but the hosts were troubled during the limited cricket played on the third day. They lost 4 wickets for just 58 runs until day-three was ended.
The cloud cover over the field helped the Northamptonshire bowlers to swing the ball in the air, but they were unfortunate not to have a complete day’s cricket, as only 25 overs were bowled in the day.
Middlesex’s opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sam-Robson-c2421, who got out after limping to 7 runs from 30 balls.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-Dexter-c2091 was dismissed for a duck, as the hosts were in deep trouble at 31/4.
A 47-run stand for the fifth wicket between Rogers and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jamie-Dalrymple-c1658 guided the team out of some trouble. However, the latter was unable to make most of the start he got to his innings, getting out for 23 runs.
Middlesex were still in a spot of bother, but wicketkeeper batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Simpson-c1722 gave tremendous support to Rogers, as the pair put together a spectacular century partnership for the sixth wicket.
Both batsmen batted exceptionally well, collecting 188 runs together. The marathon partnership finally came to an end, as Rogers got out after a brilliant innings of 145 runs with the help of 19 fours and 2 sixes.
Simpson also got out after scoring 72 runs, but the outcome of the game was certain at that stage of the innings. Middlesex ended the day at 313/8, as the match ended in a draw.
Sri Lanka’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chaminda-Vaas-c1223 was once again impressive in the match, picking up 3 wickets for his side. However, his effort was not enough for the team to win the match.
