Middlesex vs http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Middlesex-c817 pay for slip up
Nottinghamshire punished Middlesex by taking a commanding 231-run lead on the second day of the County Championship Division One game, played at the Uxbridge Cricket Club Ground, on July 12, 2012.
After being bundled out on a embarrassing 98 in their first innings, Middlesex woes continued in the field where they dropped key catches to allow http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adam-Voges-c925 and Chris Read in stretching their team’s advantage in the match, and consequently, at the top of
the Championship table.
At stumps, the tourists had posted 329, with Voges and Read scoring 105 and 71 respectively. The home side did not come out to bat for their second innings after whole of the final session was wiped out by rain.
After a relatively sound first half of the season, Middlesex have endured a torrid start on its resumption and remain in motion to suffer their second defeat of the current campaign.
After the horrors of the first day, little changed during a decisive second morning when Notts resumed from 114 for 4. However, it was more down to a lack of conviction in fielding rather than bowling which helped the visiting side to take giant strides
in the match.
Adam Voges added three to his overnight score before being dropped on 11 and that gave Notts the ascendency, and they duly obliged.  http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Lumb-c1981 but their failure to take out Notts skipper on 15 proved even
more damaging.
It then led to a commanding stand of 143 between Voges and Read, and when the latter was dismissed, caught and bowled by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Toby-Roland-Jones-c2696 for 71, the game had slipped away. Voges duly compiled his century (105), before the tail was quickly wrapped up.
The only respite for the home team was rain, forcing another early stump and with forecast for the next two days not encouraging for cricket, Middlesex will relish spending time off the field.
Following the conclusion of the day, Voges himself was not too keen on rating his latest hundred.
"This was certainly not my best hundred: it was a real graft but I'm very pleased with it," said Voges. "I really enjoy batting with Chris Read. We run well together between the wickets and he just keeps churning out the scores for Notts. He is a terrific
player."
