Middlesex vs Surrey – County Championship Division 1 – Live Cricket Score and Update – Surrey lose by three runs after final day horror show
Surrey suffered a shocking three-run defeat on the final day of their County Championship Division One game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Middlesex-c817, haunted by an indifferent pitch at the Lord’s stadium, London, on April 15, 2012.
Despite having a poor past record at the venue, which has seen them win just once in their last 18 visits, the away team still had high hopes, following a hard fought battle on Day 3. After relinquishing a slender first innings lead, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851 bowlers –
led by Jon Lewis’ impressive five wicket haul, dismantled the hosts on an embarrassing 106 – leaving themselves 141 to chase, of which 95 was wiped out with six wickets intact.
So the final morning began with skipper Rory Hamilton- Brown, along with Tim Maynard resuming from their overnight scores of 51 and 12 respectively – hoping to attain the remaining runs.
As it turned out, the pitch was not the ideal track to bat on with the ball dancing around at will. After adding six runs, which helped the team to cross the 100-run mark, Maynard was caught lbw by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gareth-Batty-c1456 failed
to open their respective accounts - dismissed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tim-Murtagh-c2673 to leave the batting side in trouble at 104 for 7.
Lewis offered support to the skipper as the duo added 22 however; the tricky strip kept things in the balance and again came to the rescue of the home side – with Toby Roland- http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jones-c69217 taking out the prized scalp of Hamilton Brown, who edged behind and walked
back on a well made 63.
It left Lewis with the no.10 and no.11 for company but the task proved too much for the tail enders, who fell in quick succession to leave their side agonizingly short of the target – bowled out on 137 as Middlesex celebrated an emphatic victory.
After the match, Surrey skipper described the Lords pitch as the worst ever he has played on. "It was one of the worst wickets I've played on," Hamilton-Brown said. "It went up and down, the seam movement was so exaggerated, people were getting hit and two
first-class sides scored not many more than a hundred. It made for a battle out there."
