A laboured approach from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851 batters saw then post just 161 for 5 on day 2 of their County Championship Division Match against Middlesex at the Lord’s Stadium, London, on April 13th, 2012.
In a tedious display, the away side were guilty of not making their advantage count, scoring a touch over 2 runs per over to collect just 161 in 79 overs, after Middlesex’s last pairing added 31 in 14.3 overs to  help their side reach 256.
The morning began with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Corey-Collymore-c1283, the overnight pairing, resuming from the team’s total of 225 for 9. Malan played patiently to add 26 in the morning’s play and received able support from Collymore, who was left stranded on 5, following
his dismissal off Chris Jordan.
Middlesex then took to bat, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ollie-Rayner-c2139. His partner
managed to reach his half-century and looked well set to amass a big score before edging behind the stumps of a Collymore delivery, which held its line.
A period of stalemate followed, where Mark Ramprakash and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zander-de-Bruyn-c98565 failed to capitalize on the good work done by the openers. Their dogged approach encouraged the Middlesex bowlers, all of whom kept probing around the off-stump and got their just
reward in the final hour of play.  http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Neil-Dexter-c2091 caught Ramprakash lbw, after the veteran had consumed 90 balls for his 17.
The next over saw Toby Roland- http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jones-c69217 celebrating the wicket of de Bruyn, who too fell on 17. His innings somewhat, included flashes of brilliance, including three-well timed boundaries.
The sluggish pace of their innings had kept Middlesex in the hunt and Dexter got his second shortly before the close of play – combining with Berg to take out Tom Maynard. The final few overs had a similar tone as Surrey seemed content on defending – reaching
161, trailing by 95 runs, before the umpires took the bails off.
