Midfielder Marouane Fellaini to remain at Everton despite interest from Chelsea
Everton midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 if they try and make a move for him in the upcoming summer transfer window.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Belgium-c2850 international began his senior career at Standard Liege in 2006 at the age of 17. In his two seasons at the club, Fellaini made 60 appearances and scored 9 goals.
While at the Belgian outfit, Fellaini established himself as one of the best box-to-box midfielders, which earned him interest from top European sides.
Manchester United, Aston Villa, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-c30728 Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich were all reportedly interested in signing Fellaini in 2008.
However, the Belgian midfielder decided to sign with Everton and arrived at Goodison Park in the summer of 2008 for a fee of £15 million.
In just his first season at the club, the Blues midfielder was named http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019’s Young Player of the Season, having made 35 appearances and scored 9 goals.
Fellaini has had to step in as a second striker for Everton in the 2008-2009 season when manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Moyes had most of his strike force on the sidelines.
Even though Fellaini managed fine as a second striker, Moyes realized the youngster was most effective as a defensive midfielder.
He made 34 appearances that season but could not manage to score as many goals, finding the back of the net only three times.
The 23-year-old has been out with injury most of this season, but still managed to make 25 appearances and score three goals once again.
His injury has raised speculation that Fellaini might be heading towards an Everton exit, however the player himself has claimed he wishes to stay with the Toffees.
Along with other top European sides, Chelsea are reportedly keeping a close watch on the young midfielder with intent to lure him to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
The Blues are looking to bring in reinforcements during the summer transfer window after a particularly disappointing season which saw them finish without any silverware.
After winning the domestic double last season, this season ends with a second place English Premier League finish and a UEFA Champions League qualification.
With http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 either sidelined or underperforming most of the season, the club seems to have realized they need to bring in replacements.
Fellaini would make a decent addition to any side, but the player seems to have made it clear he has no intention of leaving Goodison Park any time soon.
