Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Simon Rolfes has insisted that his side has the quality to progress further in the UEFA Champions League. He claimed that the brilliant victory against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 this week has proved that Leverkusen are
not the underdogs in the group and have a very good chance of qualification.
Werkself put in a sensational performance after the interval against Valencia and scored two goals, winning the clash impressively in the end with a 2-1 score-line. Andre Schurrle and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sidney-Sam-c33476 scored the two goals hence securing
all three points for their side.
Robin Dutt’s side are now firmly placed second in the Group-E of the Champions League with six points behind http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. They have won two of the three matches played and lost one in the process.
Simon Rolfes insisted that Bayer Leverkusen proved with the win that they are one of the contenders to win the group. He admitted that the team lacked the confidence and self belief in the first-half and made some dreadful mistakes
but the display after the interval was sensational.
“We said in the dressing room that we could not continue as we did. It was not a tactical adjustment, but we had to give our best fight and stop with the lapses in concentration. When you lack self-confidence, the only way you
get through is to fight,” the German international added.
Rolfes’ teammate Sidney Sam claimed that his team was well prepared for the battle and were determined to perform against a quality opposition in the form of Valencia. He admitted that he was satisfied with his performance and
expressed his delight on scoring the winner which led to three points for his team.
“Actually, we were well prepared, but you could see that in Valencia we faced a strong team. In the second half, I was able to play more off my strengths, and run into space. Now we have put ourselves in a very good position in
the Champions League,” he was quoted as saying in an interview to Goal.com.
Werkself will next face Valencia at the Mestalla in search of their third win of the competition.
