  1. The main differences between tropical and mid-latitude cyclones are that tropical cyclones are what are known as warm core lows, and they do not have frontal systems associated with them.  Mid-latitude lows are cold-core lows with frontal systems.  Warm core simply means the center of the cyclone is warmer than the surrounding air outside the low.  Cold core lows are the opposite.  Mid-latitude lows are driven by strong temperature gradients (warm air and cold air) while tropical cyclones are driven by latent heat released by condensation.  Tropical cyclones have their strongest winds immediately outside the center, while mid-latitude lows can have their strongest winds well removed from the center.
