Midnight Interlude looking good on grass, as he headlines a full field in the Oak Tree Derby
The 3-year-old young grass runner, Midnight Interlude heads full cast in the Grade 2 $ 150,000 Oak Tree Derby on 15 October, 2011, at Santa Anita Park against 3-year-old 14 other runners over the Santa Anita Park’s turf course at about 1 1/8 miles.
The son of War Chant, out of Midnight Kiss by Groom Dancer, Midnight Interlude has impressed over grass after her terrible performance in the first two legs of the Triple Crown on dirt where he wasn’t even considered in the race.
The Bob Baffert trained Santa Anita Derby winner, Midnight Interlude switched to turf after a disappointing run in the Grade 1 Preakness Stakes on dirt, and it was instant success on her first start on turf in the Tsunami Slew Stakes.
Midnight Interlude at Hollywood Park on 17 June, 2011, over at a distance of one mile took care of Surrey Star and Temple’s Door, who finished second and third, respectively. The winner covered the distance of a mile in 1 minute and 35.12 seconds.
Midnight Interlude went to Del Mar for the summer meet and to kick off the summer meet, he participated in the Grade 2 La Jolla Handicap on 13 August, over at a distance of 1 1/16 miles.
Second start on turf couldn’t be as good as the first one, as Midnight Interlude rolled in fourth, with Burns, Lil Bit O’Fun and Thirtyfirststreet were the top three with the winning time of 1 minute and 42.36 seconds.
Arnold Zetcher owned Midnight Interlude is coming off a second place finish in the Grade 2 Del Mar Derby on 4 September, 2011, as Banned got the best of him in a 1 1/8 mile long race, with the winning time of 1 minute and 47.93 seconds.
Jockey Rafael Bejarano, who has ridden the colt throughout his three and only starts on turf, will be aboard the 3-year-old in the Oak Tree Derby.
Midnight Interlude has gone on to earn $751,910, and will be looking to add on to the existing earnings by winning the $ 150,000 event and he has 3 wins out of 9 starts.
