Midway Skipper voted top dog in June by GWA
Midway Skipper was awarded the greyhound of the month award for June by the GWA [Greyhound Writers’ Association] at Sunderland’s Festival this week.
The Henry Chalkey owned and trained b***h was also a multiple winner at this year’s annual GBGB [Greyhound Board of Great Britain] awards, receiving the best British bred, best b***h and best marathon runner award for 2009.
The achievements accomplished by Skipper this month made her the first to ever make a successful defence of the TV trophy in Kinsley since Scurlogue Champ in 1986.
She also won three of the four races she contested in.
Henry Chalkley expressed his gratitude to the GWA in the Racing Post: “We were so proud of the awards that the members of the association conveyed on her earlier this year and are extremely happy with this latest one.”
The nominations Skipper was up against consisted of Pall Mall winner Ballymac Ace, Coral Olympic winner Ballymac William, Gymcrack winner Blue Artisan, Officer Donagh [Unbeaten in five] and Grand National winner Plane Daddy.
So it has to be said that it’s quite an achievement for Skipper and her connections.
