Graduating from college in December with a financial management degree and really looking to move to NYC but need some advice. I'm from the Twin Cities, so would it be tough adjusting to the new york lifestyle? How easy would it be to find a job in finance? and would making friends be tough?

  1. As the previous answerer said get your job first. Look into areas around NYC for housing like New Jersey a 15 minute commute. New Yorkers tend to be friendly but are always on the move. Its easy to make friends especially at the work place.

  2. Get a job before you move.  Everything else is easy.  What exactly is the "New York lifestyle"?  We eat, sleep and work just like everyone else.

  3. you really wouldnt have much luck finding a job in NYC now...our economy is starting to turn downwards and there really isnt much demand for someone with a degree in financial management.

NYC is a tough, cutthroat job market, especially in your field. Your best bet would be to find a job in a city that is just up and coming in finance and needs people with your skills. In NYC, we actually have a surplus of people like you, and you may well find yourself workin at starbucks with 4 roomates in some hellhole south of canal street.
