Mie OE Nielsen wins Girls 100m backstroke gold: Day five – European Junior Swimming Championships
Mie OE Nielsen of Denmark won gold medal of the Girls 100m backstroke on fifth day of the 2012 European Junior Swimming Championships in Antwerp, Belgium on Sunday, July 8.
Nielsen stayed considerably ahead of her opponents throughout the double lap backstroke discipline and made her way to the medal rostrum for gold medal.
With her alluring efforts, she remained in a lead of full body length over her strongest challenger and tapped the finishing blockade with the timing of 1 minute and 00.87 seconds.
Her gold winning effort remained 0.85 seconds faster from her following swimmer, Jessica Fullalove of Great Britain, who made her way to the medal rostrum as second position holder by producing an effort of 1 minute and 01.72 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Ambra Esposito of Italy, who stayed almost one body length slower and touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 02.57 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Selina Hocke of Germany, who remained 0.38 seconds apart and settled on the finishing end as fourth position holder with the timing of 1 minute and 02.95 seconds.
The German swimmer was chased by Isabella Hindley of Great Britain, who stayed only 0.04 seconds apart and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 02.99 seconds for fifth position.
Subsequently, sixth finest spot of the race was obtained by Hazal Sarikaya of Turkey, who suffered a loss of 0.33 seconds from her foregoing finisher and reported a time of 1 minute and 03.32 seconds.
Sarikaya was chased by Luliia Larina of Russia, who remained just 0.09 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing blockade by submitting a time of 1 minute and 03.41 seconds for seventh position.
Eighth position of the discipline was obtained by Mirthe Goris of Belgium, who remained almost 0.80 seconds behind and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 04.21 seconds.
Nielsen was contented with her stupendous effort in the double lap backstroke event as she received huge appreciation from her supporters at the prize ceremony of the tournament.
