Miele Dishwasher G856 SC cleaning assistance

Question

For so long I felt as though our filter never needed cleaning.  Now, there is food in and around the filter bottom.  I will clean filter, should I run it with vinegar or anything special to really clean it out?  How do I clean out the bottom 2" of dirty water?
