Miesha Tate: I will be privileged to get a rematch against Ronda Rousey - UFC News
Miesha Tate, former Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion, finally broke her silence saying that during the bout against Ronda Rousey, she had a clear upper hand but one small mistake made her win fade away adding that she will be happy to get a rematch.
Tate was scheduled to headline Strikeforce’s Tate versus Rousey pay-per-view which took place on March 3, 2012. The hexagon was stretched at Nationwide Arena situated in Columbus, Ohio, United States. Miesha, infamous as the ‘Takedown’, entered the ring
to defend his bantamweight gold.
Things did not go well and the 25-year-old world number one mixed martial art pound-for-pound brawler lost the bout via submission. The significant aspect of the whole bout was the submission move applied by Ronda that almost broke Miesha’s arm and got a
standing ovation from the crowd.
It is this mistake that Tate referred to in her short interview. Tate said that Ronda is famous for her arm-bar submission move adding that she knew it very well even then made a small mistake and got pinned. Later on, Tate even dubbed Rousey’s vicious lethal
submission move as ‘phenomenal’.
Tate has luckily not broken her arm but she will most probably undergo surgery since the tendons have received substantial damage. Tate has entered the hexagon a total 15 times and came out victorious in 13.
Rousey, on the other hand, recently started her career in May 2011 and since then has been in a total five bouts. The 25-year-old submission specialist has won all of her bouts and interestingly by the same methodology that is arm-bar submission manoeuvre.
Tate during the interview said that she will be privileged to get a rematch against Ronda so as to rectify the mistake if possible.
Tate commented, “I, personally, would love the opportunity to have a rematch. I think at a high level, it takes one mistake. Anyone can make a mistake at any moment and someone’s able to capitalize on that. I don’t feel that Ronda proved anything other than
what she’s already (proved) -- that she has one thing that she’s great at. Really phenomenal at. But everything else, I could beat her. Give me another shot.”
Miesha Tate is currently on an indefinite suspension and cannot make a comeback unless and until cleared by the designated physician. Ronda, also known as ‘Rowdy’, is currently the women’s bantamweight champion and is awaiting a genuine competitor.
