I hate contacts but i like them better that glasses. Are there contacts that you can leave in for an extended period of time as opposed to having to take them out every night?

  1. I'd suggest getting Acuvue. They are designed for overnight wear. Generally I don't think it's "safe" to wear them for the entire 30 days without refreshing them in the cleaning solution. Protein builds up and it can just go bad.

I've been using Acuvue Oasys and Acuvue 2 and wear them for a period of 3 days before I soak them in cleaning solution.

  2. No. It is NOT safe to wear contacts overnight.

Were as there may be "extended-wear" contact lenses marketed, using any contact lens to sleep in greatly decreases needed oxygen and fluid flow to the front surface of the eyes. In turn, this brings abnormal tissue growth into the area, which becomes scar tissue. This makes the front surface of the eye less healthy.

Also you can scratch your cornea and/or cause permenant damage to your eye. Or your eyelids could get stuck together. Sleeping with your contacts in, gives you the possibility of waking up blind.

  3. There are contacts called "extended wear" :] and you can leave them on for at most 30 days (better to take them out every week or so and clean them). Ask your optometrist for extended wear lenses :)
