ok so i am not quite sure if this is obsessive compulsive disorder but i have been having these weird symptoms for about three years and i don't know what to do. For example whenever i am at school i have to check my lock on my locker 11 times before i can go to class, and if i don't there is this huge urge to do so and i just cant resist it. also i am constantly checking to make sure the straightener is off like five times a day.

Also i know this may sound really weird and you may think i am a creeper or something but whenever i everyone is asleep i always check on my family to make sure they are alive by checking their breathes. once again 11 times. i dont know why but i always have to do everything 11 times. and also every night i check in my closet, behind my door and under my dresser and i have to or i wont fall asleep.

Please help me i know this is a really long question but i am desperate for answers and please dont be mean about it.

thank you : )

  1. Ok sound like you have OCD 123.

My partner has it and he counts everything like when he locks the car, he goes around many times to check that is locked same with if he scrathches his chin he does it the same way many times over this is only an example of a small amount of things he does.

He was like this for 10 years until i couldnt stand it no more. He went to the Dr who said OCD then was referred to a shrink who was fabulous and taught him different ways to manage all of it plus he was put on some medication. He now can function a lot better.

Please don't hesitate in getting some help before it takes over your life completely!!!

  2. You sound like you have OCD with some paranoia.

The only way to find out is to see a psychiatrist for proper diagnosis and any treatment.  You may benefit from some therapy as well.  I have OCD and take two different meds for this.  Don't be too hard on yourself - there are alot of "us" out there.  That is good that you are concerned about your family

  3. OCD is right up your alley, sorry to say.  The best thing you can do is to get professional help where a someone can train your way of thinking by using Cognitive Behavior Therapy.  The disorder is characterized by unwanted thoughts hard to control followed by trivial repetitive rituals to temporarily relieve the thoughts such as excessive handwashing, doing routines a certain number of times (you doing 11 times), and constantly checking things (you mentioned checking your locker and the switch on your straightener several times).  Don't worry, this disorder can be easily treated with the right type of help.  Talk to your parents and see if you can get counseling.  Best of luck to you.  Check out the following link below.
