well i just started my very first batch of beers and i have a question. is it ok that i added the priming sugar while boiling all the ingredients over the stove??? cause the instructions said to save it for the bottling stage and i didnt notice it said that till after the fact. will it come out the same?? i saw a video on youtube and the guy on there also mixed the dextrose over the stove while making the wort. also how exactly would i make my beer carbonated in the carboy when i already used up the dextrose?? do i go and buy more dextrose? if you could be specific i would appreciate it. thanks!

  1. Buy more dextrose. Add 3/4 cup (dissolved in boiling water) to a five-gallon batch and stir well just before you bottle. Adding it to the boil will just make your beer a tiny bit stronger and a tiny bit thinner. You may never notice the difference. If you want to play it safe, dissolve 1 1/4 cups of dried malt extract in boiling water and use that to prime your beer. That will come a bit closer to the results you are aiming for.

  2. What you have done is change the recipe.  Some people will add dextrose into the wort while it's boiling in order to boost the alcohol of the finished brew.  Your finished beer will taste a little different from the original recipe, but there's going to be nothing wrong with it.

To bottle, you are going to need more dextrose.

  3. You'll alter the flavor of your beer but aside from you've done nothing wrong.  Simply use other sugar when it comes time to bottle, just about anything will work for priming.  You don't carbonate in the carboy though, you carbonate when you bottle.
