Question:

Might not be going to college this semester, in the meantime what else can I do?

In a nutshell, the university that I'm was looking forward to going to got my finances screwed up, and housing maybe declining my lease because of it.

And its also late for me to sign up for community college classes, so I need an outlet to do.

Mind you its hard finding a job, so I might not have one, and to tell the truth I don't want to work as of now.

I don't have any skills, so what else can I do?

  1. Unless you have someone to pay your bills you have to work.  When I was in your position I joined the Naval Reserve. I went to boot camp and my specialty school and then went back to college. I had a training weekend once a month and I had two weeks of active duty each year. I learned a lot and had a bit of spending money. This type of service does not qualify a person for GI benefits but there are several different programs. Take a look.

  2. Aw, I'm sorry, that's really too bad.

I would suggest volunteering. The hours are more flexible than a job. You won't get paid, but it will be fulfilling. You could volunteer at a homeless shelter, senior center, hospital, animal shelter, or work as a tutor.

  3. Make sure to check with your community college.  A lot of times they'll let you register late, especially if you have a good excuse like yours.  I've done it 2 different times at 2 different comm. colleges so don't be too quick to rule it out as an option.  I added 3 classes, 1 week after classes started!!

I would do my best to find a job.  I know it can be a tough market but usually college kids can find things on or around campus.  I found many jobs just by walking into stores that had posted "help" signs.  If you look hard enough, you can find one.  Look online too (craigslist is a good place); lots of jobs on there.

If it comes down to no options, I would just enjoy my time off.  Prepare for your classes next semester early, get involved in a club or organization, exercise (take yoga classes), do something new (take a photograph class).  When I say "class" I don't mean a class through school, just a program offered in the community.  Volunteer at a place relevant to your degree; get some experience.

  4. You can chat with all of these lovely people on YA all day....that's what I'm doing until my classes start in October....you're welcome to join me!  :)

  5. volunteer!  If you volunteer in your field, future employers will think you INTENTIONALLY took time out of your busy schedule to sacrifice for what you believe in- not that you wouldn't have done that anyway, but... if life gives you lemons, make lemonaide!  There are some good websites that can help.
