Mighty Whitey expected to shine in Irish Jockeys Association Handicap
Mighty Whitey is tipped to claim the Irish Jockeys Association Handicap at Ballinrobe in Ireland on Monday, August 13, 2012. A victory in the 1 mile 6 furlong event will earn the winner a cash prize of €5,175.
A total of 16 runners have been attracted towards the race, which is scheduled to start at 17:25 GMT. The bookies have declared Seventh Sign as the outright favourite to win, but there is a question mark over his consistency. He has participated in five
events and managed to win just once.
On the other hand, Mighty Whitey has been delivering some consistent results in recent times and he will be full of confidence right now. He has only participated in a few events this year, but has managed to make his team proud on a couple of occasions.
He has been given a general starting price of 7 to 1 and will definitely catch the attention of the bettors.
The six-year-old gelding started off his career on a high, winning a couple of back-to-back races. He was priced 25 to 1 in his first ever outing and was not expected to be competitive. However, he pulled off a surprise in the end, winning by a neck distance.
He displayed very good speed at the start and had the stamina to hold onto his lead.
Despite being victorious in his first ever race, the seasoned runner was not given the best odds for his next outing. He once again proved everyone wrong and took the top spot by a staggering margin of 21 lengths.
This performance was quite an amazing one and the Noel C. Kelly’s trainee was full of confidence. However, he struggled to maintain these high standards and things started getting bad for him. He had to wait for quite a long time before winning the third
race of his career and his team will now be hoping that he keeps delivering such results with consistency.
Overall, the Irish runner has participated in 21 events, winning three of them whereas secured the third spot on the same number of times. He needs to improve that record and jockey, W. J. Lee, will be helping him in today’s race to do so.
